他身價逾400億，過的是「週期性人生」：瘋狂工作1年，然後拚命玩樂兩年，去實現他的「願望清單」，因為他不想像大多數人一樣，總是把最重要的事情排在最後面。

做最刺激、風險最高的工作，玩最精彩、最冒險的遊戲，對大多數的人來說，恐怕只有電影裡的○○七才做得到，但是對有些人來說，把工作和遊戲同時推到極致，才是更真實的人生。 馬克．莎特沃茲（Mark Shuttleworth）就是其中的一個，他的經歷如果拍成電影，也不比○○七影集遜色多少。 賣掉公司投入股市、債券　財富逾四百億元為了推廣自己的軟體平台，二月十五日，他搭著自己的私人噴射客機，兩天內旋風般的拜訪台灣的政府、科技產業、大學和台灣的軟體開發社群，這是他五個星期、亞洲十三國之旅的其中一站， 馬克今年三十二歲，他曾經從一人公司開始，在三年半內，發展出全球第一套網路安全交易軟體，最後以五億七千五百萬美元，賣給網路交易公司Verisign。當年賣掉公司之後，他把所有財產放在倫敦的股票和債券市場裡，才六年多，他的財富已從五億美元（約合新台幣一百六十二億元）變成了約十三億美元（約合新台幣四百二十億元）。 但更特別的，是他生活的方法：他是全球第二位付費上太空遊覽的「太空旅客」；為了探險，他去過南極；他甚至曾深入戰區，去敘利亞推銷自己的軟體平台。這位行事作風特異的年輕富豪，究竟有著什麼樣的性格與價值觀？ 「只要他要的東西，沒有人能阻止他，」他的同事Malcolm Yates說。他對每件事，都設定了清楚的目標和底限，他會用直截了當、甚至獨斷的方法達到目標，當時間一到，他馬上轉換目標，毫不猶豫。他想要的東西很多，但「我一次只做一件事情，」馬克用帶有英式口音的英文，斬釘截鐵的說。 馬克出生在南非約翰尼斯堡一個平凡家庭裡。「我從小就想探索這個世界，但是你也知道，南非離這個世界的其他地方，都很遠。」

他大學時代讀的是企管，但是大三那一年，他在實驗室裡看到當時第一代的瀏覽器Mosaic，從南非可以直接連接到遠方的資料，「我的心裡馬上有個聲音：這就是我要的，世界會因此改變！」馬克興奮的說。 他開始找系上教資訊管理的教授，想學跟網路有關的東西，老師教他去找資訊系的人，到了資訊系，卻發現跟網路相關的課，教的卻是艱深的數學演算法。
「那個時代，學校還只把網路當成學術交流用，沒有人看出網路的潛力。」馬克只好自己摸索，長達八個月的時間，他把學校課業擺在一邊，每天工作十小時以上，「那時也不知道網路究竟能多紅，但我心裡的鼓聲告訴我，這就是我要的東西！」 他甚至透過網路，參與Debian系統的開發（編按：Debian是一種自由作業系統，由全世界的志工合作開發），在網路上，他跟歐洲、亞洲的高手分工、討論如何合作建立系統，他第一次感覺，自己真的跨出了南非。 與全世界電腦高手交流　發展出首套網路交易軟體 他的第一筆財富，就是這麼來的。大四那一年，他就在家裡開起了一人公司，提供網路安全服務，原本他只是提供安全的電子郵件服務，但是他開始發現，網路交易即將風行，卻沒有任何人試著做保障交易安全的軟體。他因為沉迷網路，失去到英國念碩士的機會，卻意外打開了致富之門。 憑一個人的力量，想發展出能阻擋所有駭客攻擊的軟體，談何容易？但是馬克從參與Debian的開發中，認識了全世界的電腦高手，他每天就是坐在電腦前，工作十八個小時，在網路上找到熱愛技術的朋友一起開發。 那是一件跟全世界高手速度競賽的事，做不了第一個人，就是失敗。「那是個非常高風險的投資，市場上任何一點變化，就能讓我提早出局。那三年半，我幾乎是瘋了一樣在工作。」他回憶。

專注的代價是，三年後他搶到了頭香，發展出第一套網路上所有人使用的網路交易軟體，他把鑰匙的概念放上網路，成立一家發行密碼鑰匙的公司，賣方需要申請一把由數字密碼構成的鑰匙，這把鑰匙一方面能證明賣方在網路上的真實身分，一方面還能把所有想交易的消費者傳來的資訊，用這把鑰匙鎖起來。
就是因為這套軟體，讓網路認證公司Verisign決定買下他的公司，當時一九九九年，他才二十六歲。 最重要、最有趣的事　永遠排在第一位 瘋狂工作，瘋狂玩！「我拚命工作之後，就一定要徹底放鬆一段時間」，而他的「一段時間」，通常是一到兩年，純放鬆，完全不工作。在他的抽屜裡，有一張「wish list（願望清單）」，二○○一年，他決定上太空旅行。
為了這十天太空之旅，他不惜花費二千萬美元（約合新台幣六億四千萬元）及接受長達一年半辛苦的集訓。這一年半，他必須承受完全丟開工作的風險。 但上太空，是他的願望，當機會來臨，他一定要去做。「如果我不這麼做，我會每天望著天空，問自己為什麼不去？」這就是他，永遠把對自己最重要，最有趣、最吸引他的事排在第一位，而且不計代價。二○○二年，他終於登上蘇俄的和平號太空站。在太空中感覺如何？他引用達文西的回答，「回到地面，你將終生仰望天空。」 在暢銷書《搶占二億人市場》（Age Power）中，作者Ken Dychtwald提出「週期性人生」的全新概念，在這概念下，沒有所謂的正式退休，學習、工作、休息不斷循環，馬克的人生觀正是如此。公司才賣掉六年，他已經上過太空，去過南極。
「地球上再也沒有一片土地，像那裡（南極）一樣，毫無人跡（untouched），當你走近野生動物，他們會毫無戒心的接近你，因為他們看過的人，太少了。」
他拚命工作，拚命享受的人生觀，也充分反映在他台灣之行。前兩天，他每天工作十幾個小時，每段行程的控制，更像鐘擺一樣的準時，記者採訪的時間一到，助理立刻說：「馬克，時間到。」他立刻起身走出房間，進行下一個工作。
而後兩天，他帶著美麗的女友，探訪著名的日月潭。「很多人都把對自己最重要的事往後延」，他不能等，因為他認為：誰知道還有沒有以後？ 每年砸下三億元　擬建立新自由作業系統平台 現在，他每年投入一千萬美元（約合新台幣三億兩千四百萬元），在倫敦成立Canonical軟體公司，聘用五十名工程師，把只有專家才會使用的Debian，改成像一般視窗系統一樣容易使用的新軟體，這種作業系統不但免費，而且Canonical還每年主動寄出數百萬片的免費光碟到世界各地，希望增加使用者。
這次馬克的台灣行，就是要爭取台灣系統廠商，在未來推出的低價電腦中，安裝他推出的免費軟體。 「推動這個計畫，只用了我的資產的百分之二，卻占了我百分之九十五的時間。」二月十六日晚上，他在台大演講時，對著台灣的自由軟體社群用煽動性的口吻說，「還有什麼計畫，比建立新的全球自由作業系統平台，影響範圍更大、回報更高、更有挑戰性？」他認為，開放軟體運動，就像當年的網路，終將像一場大地震，原有的建築將被震垮，讓新的建築物冒出頭。 他語氣中的「舊建築」，指的就是微軟的作業系統和Office文書系統，這一回合，他努力的企圖，竟是建立一個能擊敗微軟的新平台！ 對於自己的雄心壯志毫不怯場，他說：「我從創業中學到，成功的關鍵，就在認清你自己手上有多少資源，你的目標在哪裡，再看清楚你要花幾年，才能達成目標。」 馬克不是科技業最有錢的富豪，但用力工作，用力玩樂的態度，的確給了他一個和其他富豪完全不一樣的人生。 馬克．莎特沃茲小檔案 出生：1973年 身價：約新台幣420億元 目前事業版圖： 1.創立Canonical公司，推廣自由系統軟體 2.創立Mark Shuttleworth基金會，在非洲推廣教育 3.創立HBD創投，投資南非的高科技產業

I like playing basketball, or I should say I like to shoot and satisfied with the feeling when getting the point. Tricia McMillan aka Trillian is a fictional character from Douglas Adams' series The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. According to the movie version, her middle name is Marie.
Trillian is a young lady and brilliant astrophysicist whom Arthur Dent completely failed to chat up at a party at a flat (possibly above an Estate Agent's) in Islington. Arthur was fairly certain she was a young lady, but at the time was totally unaware of her academic qualifications. The trilogy later reveals that Trillian eventually left the party with an alien by the name of Zaphod Beeblebrox, who (according to the Quintessential Phase) is directly responsible for her nickname. The next time she and Arthur meet is on a spaceship in deep space, six months after the aforementioned party and shortly after the Earth has been destroyed to make way for a hyperspace bypass.
In the radio series she is carried off and forcibly married to the President of the Algolian Chapter of the Galactic Rotary Club, and consequently does not appear in the second radio series at all. The later radio series (the Tertiary Phase and beyond) reveal this (probably) only occurred in the artificial universe within the Guide offices. In the books, which the third, fourth and fifth series follow, she saves the universe from the Krikketmen, and later becomes a Sub-Etha Radio reporter under the name Trillian Astra.
The books also hint at a relationship between Trillian and Arthur Dent.
Trillian was played on radio by Susan Sheridan, on television by Sandra Dickinson, on the Original Records LP version by Cindy Oswin, and on film by Zooey Deschanel.
In the original radio series she is portrayed with a British accent — in both the tv series and movie she is played as an American. The Quintessential Phase of the radio series features Sandra Dickinson in the role of the alternate version of Tricia McMillan as a "blonder and more American" Trillian — the radio series indicates that the character is identical to the first Trillian and was born in the United Kingdom. In the book Mostly Harmless, it is said that both the alternate Tricia McMillan and Trillian have a British accent.
She appears in the books The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, The Restaurant at the End of the Universe, Life, the Universe, and Everything, Mostly Harmless. The alternate Tricia McMillan also makes a brief appearance in the adaptation of So Long, and Thanks For All the Fish, the Quandary Phase.
The Trillian instant messaging software was named after this character.
Some drafts of the movie's screenplay, and Robbie Stamp's "making of" book covering the movie, state that Trillian was to be revealed as half-human. This would have been done in order to underline the loneliness of Arthur Dent, thus the only 100% Homo sapien remaining in the universe, after Earth's demolition. This idea was scrapped after the "making of" book was written, and the scene revealing Trillian's heritage (by the mice, to Arthur, on the Earth Mark II) was re-written.

Trillium is a genus of about 40-50 species of perennial herbaceous flowering plants, native to temperate regions of North America and Asia. They used to be treated in the family Trilliaceae or Trillium family, a part of the Liliales or Lily order. The AGP II treats Trilliaceae as a synonym of the family Melanthiaceae. Common names include trillium, wakerobin, and birthroot.
In the east of North America, the most common is Trillium grandiflorum (Large-flowered Trillium). This plant has a large, often white, three-petaled flower above three broad leaves. Along with its three sepals, it's easy to see where trillium got its name, which it was given by Linnaeus. Trillium grandiflorum is often the first wildflower noticed by casual walkers; other spring wildflowers are much less apparent.

While trillium flowers are very attractive, they should never be picked, since the three leaves below the flower are the plant's only food source and a picked trillium may die or take many years to recover. For this reason in many areas, e.g. British Columbia, Michigan, New York, Oregon, and Washington, it is illegal to pick trilliums. While popular belief exists that it is illegal to pick trilliums in Ontario, no such law actually exists.



Trillium is one of the few flowers whose seeds are spread by ants and mice.
Some trilliums have a flower which is bent downward, below the leaves.
A white trillium serves as the emblem and official flower of the Canadian province of Ontario.
